About Me
An accomplished senior executive and venture capitalist, Glenn Lurie studied business and marketing at Seattle Pacific University before embarking on his career in the technology, media, and telecommunications industry with the cellular telephone pioneer McCaw Cellular Communications. Joining this groundbreaking company in the early days of the wireless industry, he played an integral part in bringing the modern smartphone to a large base of customers. In the early days of his career, he was a sales representative and marketing product manager. After AT&T purchased McCaw, Lurie became the retail and B2B sales manager for AT&T’s Wireless Service Center and then earned a promotion to the market manager with AT&T’s Wireless operations in the Oregon market, overseeing four sales and operational districts in Greater Oregon.
Glenn Lurie was next promoted to general manager of the Arizona markets for AT&T Wireless, where he was asked to build the entire market operations from scratch. He was then asked to lead the newly acquired L.A. Cellular and integrate the operations into AT&T Wireless. In 2005, after serving as region president of the West region, which spanned California, New Mexico, Arizona, Nevada, Colorado, Utah, Idaho, Washington, Oregon, and Hawaii after Cingular
acquired AT&T Wireless, Lurie was promoted to president of national distribution for Cingular Wireless. Lurie led his team in working with major retailers such as Walmart, Best Buy, and Costco. He also ran the wholesale/MNVO (mobile virtual network operator) organization, cingular.com, and online dealers. He remained in this role for three years with Cingular.
Glenn Lurie is proud to list among his accomplishments being instrumental in bringing the first iPhone and iPad to AT&T by being on point for Cingular/AT&T’s relationship with Apple.
From 2008 to 2014, Glenn Lurie served in a series of presidential positions within AT&T, culminating in 2014, being named president and CEO of AT&T Mobility and then president and chief executive officer of AT&T Mobility and Consumer Operations in 2016. After retiring from AT&T at the end of 2017, he served for three years as president, CEO, and board member of the global telecom software company Synchronoss Technologies.
Among his other accomplishments, He also built three highly innovative businesses from scratch for AT&T. Its Internet of Things (IoT) division strives to drive wireless connectivity for consumer electronics and business devices and communication among devices ranging from cars and consumer electronic devices to industrial devices and smart cities. Lurie also developed Digital Life, AT&T’s home security and automation business and Cricket Wireless,
the industry-leading prepaid cellular communication brand he initially launched under Aio Wireless.
Today, Glenn Lurie sits on the board of directors for the Avis Budget Group, the communications 5G equipment and services company Pivotal Commware, and the eSIM/IoT wireless company Teal Communications as well as the retail company Blue Link Wireless. He’s also engaged as a general partner with Stormbreaker Ventures (an early-stage venture capital fund that works with promising startups) and a strategic adviser with a number of companies.
